The coffee roaster at Main Street Coffee Emporium in Danville, Va., was still when I dropped in after a memorial service for an old friend. I could imagine it working, the smell wafting down the main avenue of this old town. My friend grew up here. We lost contact after he retired on disability several years ago. It was good to attend the service, meet his mother and siblings, and hear of the life of service he had carved out in circumstances others would have been content to succor their own difficulties. I savored a cappuccino as I drove back to Short Pump, its aroma the perfect blend for my wash in memories on the ride home.
