This seemed to be the picture to open a day with an inordinate number of posts. We are calling this Max's birthday, so little robins in their nest seem appropriate. It's really a faux birthday. Max's real birthday is a number of days away, but we are in town to celebrate it early. I wouldn't have found this image if it hadn't been for an artist named Carolyn. She pointed out the extraordinarily low nest as I walked by. She saw the camera and rightly assumed I would be interested. She comes to the little riverside park where the nest is located often to paint the Mississippi River, and has done so in flood, when it was frozen, windswept and in drought "... so dry you could almost walk across it." I remember well one of those dry summers when we lived here. The wreckage of riverboats from nearly 200 years ago were revealed as the river abated. They hadn't been seen before ... and they haven't been seen since.
