Edna is having a bad day. She knows her blood sugar is out of kilter but can't find her tester and doesn't know if it's up or down ... just that it's off. She asks if I have my iPad and can help find a passage in the Bible. It's Isaiah 40:31 ... she's known it all her life ... but today it's just not coming ... so she reads from the iPad: "... but they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint" (English Standard Version) ... "Notice it doesn't say how long you'll wait," she says. "Sometimes it feels like I've been waiting 80 years!"

  1. Put her hair in a bun, and this beautiful lady would look like Gramma Schalow! Wonder if she also raises geraniums and “tunies ‘ ?

  2. Don’t know about about geraniums and tunies, but Edna raises all sorts of things. Yesterday she brought in heirloom mint for one of the other regulars at the Grind. She’s 83 and still living alone with her dog Macy, takes a couple of cruises a year with her daughter. On the last one along the coast of North Africa, she rode a camel.
