... by the time we arrive home ... rain is pelting the windshield ... winds are lofting limbs in crazed patterns ... scattering summer-green leaves in their wake ... we race into the house ... settling with our dogs ... watching fireworks from Washington on cable.

  1. Bill—-remember Independence Day 1954 which I spent with you? (You were nine and I was 15). Uncle Homer and Aunt Alvina took us to the Washington Monument to see the fireworks——–eating a lunch they packed on a blanket, listening to the naval band from Annapolis, and watching the fireworks that I have never seen in my lifetime. Also remember the long ride back to Silver Springs with the horrible traffic that your Dad didn’t have a lot of patience to deal with. Good memories………..

  2. I do indeed. I was thinking about laying on my back under the fireworks by the Washinton Monument just the other day.
