...one of the Zodiacs motors down the slip past the Skipjack Stanley Morgan ... now owned by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation ... up until I was in high school ... the slip would fill with these vessels each Fall ... when the Skipjack fleet would come to work the northern oyster bars of the Chesapeake Bay ... built for dredging ... there were 50 or 60 of them then ... the last sail-powered fishing fleet in the U.S. ... now there are a dozen or less ... I tasted my first raw oyster aboard one of these vessels ... and gave my mother heart failure ... when I told her I really didn't want to go to college ... I wanted to captain a Skipjack ... I never got to do that ... I did crew on one ... the year it won the Governor's Cup in the annual tradition class races ...
