Images around the house ... my grandfather's safe ... maybe my great-grandfather's ... it has enough age on it ... my mother and uncle remembered that money ... for threshers ... and other hired hands ... on granddad's Iowa farm ... was kept in it ... everyone paid in cash ... it's heavy ... difficult to cart off ....

  1. Yes, I remember this safe!!!I I was about 10 yrs. old when I followed Grampa upstairs when he was lending Dad the money to buy a “new” used car. I was absolutely shocked at seeing all that money. I was swore to secrecy from Grandpa not to tell anyone (and this is the first time I’ve done that!!)What a long time ago and what a great childhood I had………

  2. Your dad saved that safe for me. My folks were going to get rid of it. They weren’t real sympathetic about my getting much when Grandpa broke up the household. Abe figured I should have something, kept it and waited until I came out to Iowa give it to me.

To me that’s as special as the safe itself!

  3. And that is another bit of family history I was unaware of……
