... John Rolfe Parkway ... finally open ... named for the English colonist who married Pocahantas ... daughter of Powhatan ... high chief of the confederation of indigenous tribes that inhabited the area when Jamestown was founded ... the parkway is jokingly known as the road to nowhere ... when we moved here 16 years ago ... it was to run north-south ... jump the James River ... and be the western bypass around Richmond ... but the city grew faster than the road could be built ... the actual bypass is further west ... John Rolfe is relegated to connecting minor roads running east and west in Short Pump and Gayton ... and not the major connector it was once envisioned ...
