Sadie being Sadie

Sadie enjoying a belly rub and ear scratch. I’ve been her human for 11 years. It’s a humbling experience to have one of these creatures, so often so much a part of our lives, attach herself (in this care) to you. A couple of years ago I had major surgery. One of my friends asked another how i was doing. She said, “Fine … I think. He seems to be doing OK, but I understand he has something called a Sadie attached to his hip. I’ve never heard of a medical device called a Sadie before, but it doesn’t sound good.” My other friend started laughing. When she regained composure she said, “It’s not a medical device. it’s his dog!” There are some stories you just can’t make up. [Photo by Dianne Bangham]
